After its centennial in April, the RCAF celebrates this milestone in collaboration with the Township of Essa in a new proclamation
With the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) celebrating its Centennial in April 2024, the local Township of Essa motioned a proclamation at their council meeting on 2 October 2024 to announce October 2024 as Royal Canadian Air Force Month.
The proclamation began at the Township of Essa Administration Centre at 0900 hrs with a flag raising attended by RCAF Officers, Honorary Colonels and members of the town’s administration including the town’s mayor Sandie Macdonald.
All in attendance were invited to return to the Administration Centre for the official proclamation at a council meeting that same evening where 16 Wing Commander Colonel Gabriel Doré, 16 Wing CWO Robert Peldjak and 16 Wing HCol Rory Mackinnon were in attendance.
According to mayor Macdonald, RCAF Month allows the Township of Essa to honour the distinct heritage of the RCAF, recognize military members and generate excitement for the future.

“The dedication and courage of Canada’s men and women in uniform is recognized as being among the very finest,” said Mayor Macdonald during the council meeting.
“The Township of Essa proudly supports the Royal Canadian Air Force for their willingness to defend our democracy and uphold the values of honour and integrity.”
