Reaching the top 1 per cent in the FORCE Evaluation requires, strength, determination and speed
For receiving a platinum operational score on her FORCE Evaluation, Commanding Officer (CO) of Personnel Support Services (PSS) Lieutenant-Colonel Karyne Brown was awarded a platinum pin by CFB Borden Base Commander Colonel Melissa Ramessar and Base Chief Warrant Officer Jeremy Peters on 19 September 2024 in building O-125 on CFB Borden.
The FORCE Evaluation consists of four components that test a CAF members ability to perform job specific tasks and be deemed as operationally ready. Those activities include two 20-metre rushes, 30 consecutive 20 kg sandbag lifts, 10 intermittent loaded shuttles and a 20-metre sandbag drag.
LCol Brown attributed her success to a variety of things such as mental fitness, good music and consistent practice to help obtain a higher score during the evaluation.
“When motivation is low, a guilty pleasure of mine is listening to the Backstreet Boys,” LCol Brown said, laughing alongside her unit.

Upon completing a FORCE Evaluation, CAF members are plotted on a FORCE Fitness Profile which considers the evaluation score, predicted VO2 Max and waist circumference measurement. These factors help determine someone’s operational fitness and health-related fitness.
Approximately less than one per cent of CAF members will reach the platinum status in their FORCE Fitness Profile, making the challenge a significant achievement and symbol of determination. Base Commander
Col Ramessar reiterated how rare it is to have achieved platinum in the FORCE Evaluation process.
“There is a tiny 0.1 per cent that gets platinum, which if you do the math… there might be one person if you’re lucky and that one person is your CO,” Col Ramessar said to PSS. “It is an awesome achievement!”
