The 2024 CAF Sport Day saw an amazing turnout of over 300 members
Personnel Support Programs’ (PSP) annual Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Sports Day saw hundreds of members pile into the Buell Fitness and Aquatics Centre on 4 October 2024 on Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden for an entire day of physical activity, camaraderie and team building through sport.
This year’s event was made especially successful thanks to the generous donations and sponsorships of CAF Sports Day 2024 including Marchant’s, Sobeys Angus, Poppis’ Italian Eatery and Coke Canada.
Base Commander Colonel Melissa Ramessar, Base Chief Warrant Officer Jeremy Peters, Commanding Officer Personnel Support Services Lieutenant-Colonel Karyne Brown and Regimental Sergeant Major CWO Dan Thomas were in attendance during the opening and closing ceremonies to encourage members to compete their hardest and enjoy the day.
“It’s so amazing to have the opportunity to do physical fitness during work hours. This opportunity brings us together,” LCol Brown said during the closing ceremonies. “We’re able to have some fun, relax, respect each other, create some morale, some connections, which also translate later on when we go out on operations to help us be a better and stronger team together.”
To rehydrate members in their athletic endeavours, Coke Canada provided BODYARMOR Sports Drinks to members, while Sobeys Angus fuelled the busy day with cases of water and fresh apples!
Members were welcomed to participate in a plethora of sporting events, from mountain biking and beach volleyball to rock climbing and powerlifting.
The four trophies presented to wining teams were for pickleball, volleyball, bowling and golf with each winner given a Bluetooth speaker, thermal water bottle and t-shirt provided by Marchant’s.
The final prizes of the day were a bicycle cruiser from Coke Canada and two tickets to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play at Scotia Bank Arena, generously donated by Poppis’ Italian Eatery.
This year was also the first time that cricket was introduced as a CAF sport, as a workshop was specially run to teach members the game.
