CFB Borden’s Officers and NCOs face off against each other
In the season of festivity and camaraderie, select teams of CFB Borden’s Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Officers hit centre ice against one another in a friendly hockey game at the Andy Anderson Arena on 10 December 2024; the Officers dominating the ice with a final score of 13-6.
One of the main event organizers Major Kyle Vetter is a Chief Instructor at the Canadian Forces Training Development Centre (CFTDC) who spoke to the heightened spirits of the CAF’s athletes during the game.
“These games are a great way to get people out of the office and engaged with their community,” Maj Vetter said.
The high scoring game electrified the crowd and players alike with excitement as the continuous sound of hockey sticks rumbling against the boards filled the arena.
Coaching the Officers was Canadian Forces Support Training Group (CFSTG) Deputy Commander Lieutenant Colonel Catherine Michaud, while Personnel Support Services (PSS) Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Chief Warrant Officer Dan Thomas coached the NCOs.
Both coaches were proud to represent each team, putting smiles on the faces of their players who skated on and off the bench.
With representatives from multiple units and entities across the Base present, moments such as this game are what bring out healthy competition in the members of CFB Borden and are a pertinent reminder to take time to rest, recover and recuperate with loved ones this holiday season.
