For the first time ever, CFB Borden joined the Base’s Command Team and the Borden Family Resource Centre (BFRC) in recognizing April as the Month of the Military Child on 2 April 2025 with an official flag raising and family dance—all in the spirit of uplifting military children in the Borden community and across Canada.

Base Commander Colonel Melissa Ramessar and Base Chief Warrant Officer Jeremy Peters took to the podium in front of building O-125 to share their appreciation for the unique challenges and sacrifices made by children with parents in the military.
“So much of what we do in the military is thanks to the awesome support we get every day from our loved ones and friends,” Col Ramessar said. “You [military children] represent the future we’re protecting and makes all our hard work in the military worthwhile.”
The resilience demonstrated by military children young and old is an honourable trait that the CAF community recognizes at all stages of life—be it as an adult in a CAF uniform or in the professional world, or on the playground and schoolyard as children.
Throughout history, Canada’s veterans, troops and those who paid the ultimate price fought not only for the freedom we experience today, but for their loved ones at home.
BFRC Family Navigator, Jennifer Landon invited five military children from the Borden community to assist in the official raising of the flag, while Family Navigator, Maude Jean-Workman sang an original song titled I Am a Military Child.
Decked out in teal t-shirts and holding miniature flags, the voices of military children and members in uniform sang in unison as the TealUp flag was raised:
I am a military child
I am a military child
I am brave, I am strong
I am proud and I belong
I am a military child.
The following Friday, 4 April 2025, the BFRC hosted a family dance at the Borden Golf Club, where families could let loose and enjoy each other’s company with some good food and music.

The BFRC thanks all who attended both of their events and want to remind everyone to wear teal (if permitted) every Tuesday this month!
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Teal-Up the Community event on Wednesday 30 April 2025.
Thank you to all military children and members who have given the CAF a future to fight for.
