Borden’s Best: Sergeant Andrew Brammer Achieves 2nd Platinum FORCES Test

Sergeant Andrew Brammer, a dedicated CAF member with over 13 years of service, has set a new benchmark by achieving platinum on the FORCES test—an accomplishment he’s managed for the second consecutive year. This milestone not only highlights his personal commitment to fitness and operational readiness but also inspires his peers across CFB Borden.

Sgt Brammer began his military career in July 2010 as a lineman before transitioning to the reserves in 2019 and eventually moving into a role in the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group (CFRG). In his current position as Quality Control Coordinator, he ensures that new members are processed smoothly and that all requirements are met before they are rolled into the FORCES test.

“I used to do the CF Express test when I first started, but once it switched over to the FORCES test in 2016, I really had to step up my game. I started with bronze, then silver and gold—but nothing compared to the feeling of achieving platinum.”

Sgt Brammer’s path to platinum was not an overnight transformation, initially struggling with basic physical requirements.

“I wasn’t always athletic. In high school, I played volleyball, but I didn’t really get into weightlifting until I joined the military,” Sgt Brammer said.

After encountering setbacks—like barely managing the push-ups and a modest run performance—he committed to a rigorous fitness regimen that included supplementary PT, CrossFit training and hot yoga.

“I joined CrossFit in 2021 and then switched to hot yoga, which has been a game changer,” he said.

His hard work paid off and in that moment of achievement, Sgt Brammer candidly reflected on how exhausted he was afterwards.

“I was almost too tired to really care… I was sweaty and disgusting, but I felt good. It validated all the hard work I’ve been putting in,” Sgt Brammer said.

For Sgt. Brammer, the platinum achievement is more than a personal accolade—it’s a symbol of the discipline, motivation and consistency that he believes are essential for every CAF member. He emphasized that his commitment to fitness is not just for individual performance but also serves as an example for his colleagues.

“When I work out, I push not just myself but also encourage my peers to get involved. It’s like defending a title… you need the support of your team,” he said. “My plan is to maintain this level for as long as I can. I’m always working on my weaknesses, like mobility, with specific training techniques, so I can continue to excel.”

Sgt Brammer’s journey from a high school athlete to a platinum achieving CAF member is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished with perseverance and dedication. As he encourages fellow service members, his parting advice is simple and inspiring:

“Don’t be afraid to put in the work. The results are worth it.”
