A formal Assumption of Appointment Ceremony was held at CFB Borden to welcome Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Guigue as the new Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of Personnel Support Services (PSS), marking a symbolic transition in leadership for one of the largest and most people-focused units on Base.
Lieutenant-Colonel Karyne Brown, Commanding Officer of PSS, opened the ceremony by reflecting on the unit’s unique role and the importance of continuity.
“PSS is all about people. That’s what we do. That’s what we’re passionate about,” she said. “What makes this even more special is that not only does our support extend to CAF members, but it extends to CAF families—even to the children who live on main.”
LCol Brown spoke fondly of her outgoing RSM, CWO Dan Thomas, emphasizing the human element behind his uniform.

“What I appreciated about [CWO Thomas] was your loyalty, your trust and your down-to-earth approach. You made a lasting impact on the entire unit and on myself,” she said.
She also shared a personal moment of connection with CWO Guigue.
“One of our chats reminded me of my own ‘why I serve’. And that memory stuck with me. Thank you for bringing me back to that,” LCol Brown said.
Looking ahead, LCol Brown welcomed her new RSM with confidence.
“As my trusted advisor, I’ll be relying on you for your sound, honest voice. I’m genuinely looking forward to the journey ahead—one filled with cooperation, growth, and a shared purpose grounded in respect, unity, and trust.”
A New Chapter for CWO Guigue
Taking the podium with humility and humour, CWO Guigue expressed his deep appreciation for the opportunity.
“It’s a true honour to be here,” he said. “I don’t know much yet about PSS, but I already know it’s about taking care of people and that’s exactly what I’m here for.”
CWO Guigue thanked the outgoing leadership and those who guided him through the transition.
“Through the process of handover, I met some really great people, especially those down in the mailroom. There’s something in the water down there!” he joked. “I even went to a barbecue…it was great. Thank you all for the warm welcome.”

He also paid tribute to his family, particularly his wife.
“My wife is here—thank you for your patience and all the sacrifices that come with this lifestyle. I know it’s not easy,” he said.
Looking forward to his role, CWO Guigue addressed the unit with sincerity.
“To the team here, ma’am, I’m ready. I’m looking forward to earning your trust, your loyalty, and your friendship. I’m really excited for this path ahead,” he said.
Closing Ceremony
The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of the Assumption of Appointment Certificate by LCol Brown and CWO Guigue, symbolizing the official transfer of responsibilities. In her final remarks, Brown encouraged everyone to congratulate Guigue and to reflect on the strong foundation of leadership, community, and service that makes PSS so vital to the success of the Canadian Armed Forces.
