Under sunny skies and with the unmistakable scent of barbecue in the air, CF1 Day at CFB Borden proved to be a resounding success, drawing in hundreds of Defence Team members, families and community partners for a celebration of camaraderie, generosity and military pride.

Hosted by CANEX on 9 July 2025, this year’s event featured a packed lineup of food, family fun and fundraising. An impressive 700 complimentary hamburgers, generously provided by M&M Meats and grilled with support from Base Leadership, Base Council, and PSP Borden, were devoured in just two hours!

“Note to self—more burgers next year,” joked CANEX Manager Tom Bennett in a post-event message. “Thanks to everyone who helped make the BBQ a hit. You rocked it!”

One of the day’s highlights was the popular charity dunk tank, where brave volunteers from units across the base took the plunge for a good cause. Thanks to enthusiastic participants and dunkers alike, the event raised $1,020.50 for the Borden Seasonal Sharing Basket, a charitable initiative supporting families in need.

Interactive static displays, bouncy castles, vendor giveaways and family-friendly zones brought the Base’s community together. Units across CFB Borden contributed their time to set up displays and assist with logistics, a gesture that didn’t go unnoticed.

“The feedback has been absolutely astounding,” said Bennett. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the effort and participation from all levels.”

CANEX staff were instrumental in ensuring the event ran smoothly, managing everything from logistics to hospitality.

“If I missed anyone, I sincerely apologize,” Bennett said. “But thank you to all who supported CF1 Day, whether as a helper or an attendee.”

As the base looks ahead to CF1 Day 2026, plans are already underway to expand community involvement, including shortened dunk tank shifts and more opportunities for units to showcase their spirit. For now, the takeaway from this year’s celebration is clear: when the Borden community comes together, it delivers with heart, heat, and hamburgers.
